Elephant Rock and Tumble Rock Tour 5-11-13

P1110850aElephant Rock, and Tumble Rock are smack in the middle of my playground. Both are located in the Tumble Lake basin, just above Detroit Lake. I usually only visit this area before the snow melts off the road that leads up into the area, mainly so I can use the straight up approach from Hwy 22. The first 2.5 miles gains 3100′, and lands you right on top of Hall ridge…and the towering rock face I call The Cooling Tower. Today we brought gear to climb Elephant Rock, but unfortunately we didn’t bring rock shoes, and I could have used another large cam to protect the route. So we ended up thrashing to the base of Elephant, then back up to summit Tumble Rock via a messy scramble route on the west side…which made for a great adventure hike.
