Alvord Peak…
As part of a week long SE Oregon adventure, Alvord Peak was first on the list. There is no trail to the summit of Alvord Peak, just the wide open slopes that support Alvord Peak at 7132’ high.
When we started the hike, it was 10:00am and mostly cloudy, when we ended this hike, we were saturated. As soon as we hit the summit the precipitation hit us from the west and chased us back down the slopes.
3.5 hours up, and a quick 2hrs down. 4.9 miles round trip x 2730’ gain.
Fun peak…
Always fun to find one of these along the way…
Looking out at the south end of Alvord Lake (dry), and if you know where to look you can see our truck…
Our route goes right up between the two humps…
Just choose the path of least resistance…
There’s two of these buttons at the summit…
As soon as we got to the summit, the weather blew in from the west and completely changed the conditions to wet and windy…
We chose this narrow gully that looked like it went…
How could rain and wind ruin this?
With the summit now in the clouds, we descend the open slopes below…
Near the bottom we look back at Alvord Peak…
