Angora Grand Tour 8-8-23

Angora Grand Tour

Another run up to Angora Peak, this time for the “Grand Tour”. It includes scrambling two pinnacles and circumnavigating one other.

Always a nice day up there. Always lots of wildlife too. Today I saw two separate Cottontail Rabbits, Ravens, and a curious Pygmy Owl. The weather started out with a thick fog but by late morning the fog had lifted to a clear blue sky.

The road on the North Coast Conservancy side of the gate is getting very brushy. I don’t think they’ll maintain the trail, so you might want to carry some pruners and trim a little.

Early morning view of the Angora Cliffs, blocked by morning fog…

The road on the NCC side is getting brushy…

Not much view at the Hermit’s View…

The Hwy 101 bridge over the Nehalem River…

From the top of the Angora Pinnacle, a foggy view looking west at the Pacific Ocean.

Looking NE up the Arch Cape Creek headwaters. The fog is blocking a great view of Onion Peak…

Looking over at the true summit of Angora Peak. The true summit (USGS) is hiding in the trees…

Looking south at the Nehalem River estuary…

Back on the old road / trail…

After a brief scramble down the ridge, I’m at the Little Angora Pinnacle.

Now standing at the summit of the true Angora Peak, Looking at the Revenge Pinnacle.

A nice view of Onion Peak… Off limits to most. You can see Saddle Mountain in the distance.

At the base of, and looking up at the Revenge Pinnacle…

My favorite rock outcropping…

Little Angora, the technical one…

Last view of the Angora Cliffs…

Could be an Eastern Cottontail…

First there was one Raven…

…then there were two…

As I was walking by, I noticed a bird at the top of this old snag…

Zoomed in I noticed a curious Pygmy Owl.

The “Grand Tour” route…
