Brothers Peak Loop…Maine (Baxter State Park)
This loop will take us to the summit of Mount Coe (3795’), South Brother (3970’), and the North Brother (4151’).
We had reserved a camp spot in the Baxter State Park campground so we could hike up Mount Katahdin…unfortunately that day they had closed all trails leading to the summit of Katahdin, and the reasoning was because of the dangerous trail conditions from a rain event two days prior. Instead, they suggested we consider this loop that gets you similar elevation gain and mileage. This loop is only a few miles from Katahdin…Not sure why these trails were not considered dangerous too… Oh well, this loop turned out to be a great hike. Katahdin will have to wait.
Cold and windy…the sun felt sooo good!
Cold and dry. The leaves are dry and crunchy…and deep, making it hard to negotiate the rocks in the trail…
Seems like most of the trails on the east coast are littered with boulders…
A big view from the summit of Coe Peak (3795′). The South Brother and North Brother (left) and Mount Katahdin (far right horizon)
Looking down at Doubletop Mountain…
Looking down at Nesowadnehunk Stream…
From the summit of South Brother (3970′), looking back at Mount Coe.
Looking at North Brother, where we are headed next…
Looking SE at Mount Katahdin, the tallest point on the horizon.
