Clatsop Towers…
It’s what I’ve named these towering rocks that I’ve found well inside the gates of Weyerhaeuser. Sunday, I made my second trip into the Clatsop Towers. Exploring only one small area, I counted numerous tall rocks/pinnacles…a few of which will take gear to access the tops.
Sunday was a wet day, but because I’m not climbing these rocks, it was good day to explore. So far, the only real crux is finding the best way to penetrate the Weyerhaeuser wall. Both approaches I’ve tried include a half mile of Oregon coastal thrash before landing on a Weyerhaeuser logging road. From there it’s an easy hike to the towers. You must have a permit to hike these roads, of which I do.
Looking forward to going back…
Different approach…same coastal thrash!
Once on the logging road, a landmark view of Black Butte.
After a few miles the Clatsop Towers come into view…
Getting closer…most sun I’ll see for the day.
A look up the draw I’ll take to access these towers…
A look down the draw, and over at Black Butte.
I spied in the distance, this cool island rock…
Best view of Onion Peak all day…
First close-up view of Pin Tower…
Might be a good route to the top…
Looking over at X Tower (left). The shorter one on the right is the one I’m heading to next…
A view of Black Butte and it’s summit rock…
Looking down at the unnamed pinnacle…
This one is called X-Tower, the tallest of them all…
Looking over at Pin Tower and The Wall…
I found this small bear grass meadow at the top of the scramble route…crazy place to find Bear Grass. 1600′ elevation in the costal range.
Looking up at the X Tower…looks like the route to the top.
Now I’m headed out to Rock Pile…
