Dome Rock…
Last time up this trail was just a couple months after the 2020 fires. A lot of growth has happened since, unfortunately a lot of that growth is the Snow Brush (ceanothus), which with grow right over the trail if left untrimmed. Lots of new growth Rhododendron, Chinkapin, Bear Grass, and lots of evergreen seedlings. Hopefully this trail will get a lot of use this summer, it’ll need lots of boots on the ground.
I’ve never had tick issues in this area, but between both of us, we picked off 8 ticks. All at the summit. Only one was just starting to embed. We did a few cross-country lines on our way down, but only found one crawling on Deb’s pant leg.
We only hit a few short patches of snow. The route is mostly snow free.
Nice day our with my lovely wife Deb.
Lots of new growth along the trail…
Looking down through the burned trees at Detroit Lake.
Nice patch of Paintbrush along the trail…
Needle Rock through the trees…
Mount Washington, Three Sisters, and the Three Pyramids…
I see Elephant Rock, The tip of Split Spire Rock, Tumble Rock and Cooling Tower Rock, all standing over Tumble Lake.
Sardine Mountain, and Rocky Top. If you know where to look, you can see the top of Pika Rock.
Table Rock on the distant horizon, and Dog Tooth Rock in the foreground.
Mount Hood, Battle Ax, and if you know where to look, you can see Phone Booth Rock.
Mount Jefferson, Park Ridge, and Olallie Butte.
First Bear Grass Blooms seen for 2024… Nice to see them coming back here.
From the highway yet. You’re still going strong I see. The fire sure opened up views toward the top and elsewhere.
