Dome Rock via Staley Ridge
Looked easy on the map. Hard to believe there is no information on the internet about this rock. The summit was the site of a fire lookout in the 1930’s. We parked near the beginning of an unmaintained trail (road) that leads to Little Dome Rock. Instead of taking that road in, we opted to thrash the ridge above, ending at Little Dome Rock. After that we took the trail that shows on the USGS, that has been abandoned for some time, and it shows…or doesn’t. The trail appeared and disappeared many times, but since it’s a ridge trail we just continued along the ridge crest. Most of this trail has been covered up by years of fallen debris and severely overgrown. The reward is finally getting to Dome Rock. There is a nice switchbacky trail to the top that was most likely used by the lookout. There is even an old helicopter landing pad at the base of the rock.
Fun exploring and finding this rock with my sweet love, Deb.

Little Dome Rock. Looks like a technical climb to the top…?
Hmmm…this area is new to me, and it looks like a great place to explore the peaks.
At the base of Dome Rock, we see this old helicopter landing pad. Maybe to bring in supplies for the lookout that used to be on top of Dome Rock…?
Elaborate switchbacky trail up and down Dome Rock.
After almost giving up, we found the Dome Spring. Warm temps, dry forest, and cold water from the ground…unfiltered!
