Gray Butte Loop…
Looking for a dry hike, and it doesn’t get much drier than Smith Rock’s back-country. The day before, we tagged the summit of Squaw Rock, camped in the hills and started this hike at 7:00 Sunday morning. We’ve done several versions of this same loop, all starting from Smith Rock State Part, summitting Gray Butte, and making our way back to the park. A lot of the route is cross county but “cross country” out here is wide open cross country.
