Emma has been wanting to get up Hood ever since graduating from BCEP this spring. We finally found the perfect day for me to take her to the summit. After a couple of warm weekend days, where lots of climber’s stomped down a well used path, the temps fell well below freezing, so last Tuesday we started at 1:00am. We were able to put crampons on shortly after starting the climb. The surface conditions stayed hard until we dropped back into the clouds (8500′) on the descent. Above the top of Palmer it was sunny and cold, below it was windy and snowy…Perfect conditions…
