Huckleberry Mountain Lookout Loop 12-1-24

Huckleberry Mountain Lookout Loop…

I parked just 17 minutes from home. Not even enough time to finish my coffee, or warm the truck up. I parked at about 3790’ because of the icy snow, but found out later it was only a short section of the road. The constant snow on the road started at about 4200’. At that point I walked in deep 4×4 tracks until about 4600’, where the snow was just too deep for most vehicles. I put my snowshoes on and continued up the road. When I got below the lookout, I went cross-country straight up to the lookout. The lookout is tightly boarded up for the winter. It’s an active lookout, so it offered a clear 360-degree view. I could see as far north as Mount Hood, south to Mount Bailey, and west, where I could see the valley was covered in fog. The Three Sisters, Broken Top, and Diamond Peak were in my face to the east. It was a blue-bird day in the foot hills of the Cascades.

Great day to be out…

First view of the lookout from the road…

Saw these little, very little insects on the snow…zoom in!

Was easy walking in the tracks…

…till here…This is where the snowshoes went on.

Breaking trail…

First view of our neighborhood below, High Prairie.

Final push to the lookout.

Nice view of the Three Sisters, Broken Top. Ball Butte, and Mount Bachelor.

Looking SW towards Oakridge…

There’s home, High Prairie…6.2 miles as the crow flies.

Diamond Peak…

Mount Jefferson and Three Fingered Jack…

Mount Bachelor…

Buffalo Peak (lower) and Battle Peak (upper). Interesting peaks…

Huckleberry Mountain Lookout. Closed for the winter.

It was nice to get off snow…

Today’s track…

You sure live in a great location. So close to adventure. Always seem to see lots of snow fleas up toward Thunder Mountain. A lot in your pictures.
