Humbug Mountain-Curry County
We took a R&R vacation to Port Orford, on the southern Oregon coast. While there for a few days, we hiked up Humbug Mountain. We did this on a Tuesday, so we didn’t see many others, but I bet this is a crowded hike on the summer weekends. The weather was perfect. Clear and sunny on the way up, with a thin cloud cover moving is while we at the summit. By the time we started down, we were looking down on a blanket of clouds below us. We did the loop hike. Starting at the Old Hwy 101 Scenic Trailhead, we hiked along the old Hwy 101 to the Humbug Mtn State Park campground, and caught the Humbug Mtn Loop Trail to the summit and back. Easy trail through some nice patches of old forest and big trees.
View off the old Hwy 101 trail, looking down at the Humbug Mtn State Park beach…
Pleasant trail through some nice forest…
Well, we’ll see just how “extremely difficult” the backside really is… Actually we think they might have forgot to take this sign down bc we couldn’t find much wrong with the trail…
From the summit, looking south…
A view looking south after the cloud layer has hit land…
The east side of the loop has some beautiful forest with big trees…
Very nice. We might try that one sometime
