Kidders Butte 4-7-22

Kidders Butte…

It’s been 8-years since the last time on Kidders Butte. A lot of trees around have been cut and replanted since, but Kidders Butte is still treed covered. 90% of the hike is on Lewis and Clark Timberland and requires a free permit that you can obtain on their website. The rest is Weyerhaeuser land which requires a $125 annual permit, but since that road section is so short, just act dumb…😊

About 6-miles of this hike is on maintained logging roads, the rest (1.5 miles) is cross country accents to the South Summit, then to the North Summit…and a pleasant descent through the forest back to the road. Lots of rock to explore along the way.

Another fun day out with Deb.

At the trailhead (gate), looking up at Twin Peaks

A little thrash…

On the logging road, first view of Kidders Butte…

A nice pinnacle…

Our route up to the N Summit, then over to the N Summit…

Final push up to the South Summit…

WTF?

On the South Summit, off in the far distance you can see Humbug Mountain and most of Saddle Mountain.

A view of the North Summit…

Looking SW along the summit ridge…

These big rocks are hidden by the forest…

Hissssssss…………..

Heading up to the North summit…

Final push…

Sugarloaf Mountain. If you zoom in you can see the steel remnants of the lookout tower…

So much to see here…Neakahnie Mountain, Angora Pinnacle, Revenge Pinnacle, Angora Peak, Onion Peak, Black Butte, Clatsop Towers, Twin Towers, Island Rock, and South Sugarloaf…

Just when you think “nobody comes here”…you find these in a tree. WTF!

Came across this pond (spring) on our descent. It was quite pleasant…
