I’ve seen this falls before from a distance, walked into the base of it years ago, then saw it with lots of spring flow from Dome Rock a week ago. This past Saturday we decided to explore the possibilities of descending it. We used the west gully to approach the top, which took about an hour. Once at the top, we explored several different aspects, the best being from Bear Poop Point. The general consensus was, not today… Our descent was rapping the first gully to the east.
We’ll come back on a warmer day, when the flow is a little lighter.
Today’s team…myself, Keith, SaRah, and Kevin.
First look at Marten Buttes Falls…said to be around 365′ tall…
This is the gully we will take to approach the top of the falls…
At the top of the falls, not easy to see the first landing…
This view down gives us a view of the first landing…cold and wet!
After deciding not to descend the falls, here’s a view from half way down…
