Mayflower Creek Canyoneer 10-28-18

Mayflower Creek, on a very rainy day…

Before the snow falls and closes the upper access road, we decided to explore this drainage from the top down…as most canyoneer’s do. The top was a bit thrashy with the low flow appearing and disappearing. We had four raps over semi dry falls, then a long walk to where the fun began…

Rap 5…appeared at about 2200’ elevation, a low angle with a short vertical drop we are calling “The Nose”. Rap 6, a 25’ drop could be combined with R5 for a 125’ rappel. With more flow, this would be a fun one. Soon after comes rap R7, Mayflower Falls. About 70’-80’ of vertical slippery rock…definitely the best of this drainage. R8 and R9, Upper and Lower Squiggles…named for how the creek takes a couple sharp jogs.

With more water flow (moderate high), this creek would be a fun short trip…from R5 down.

This trip with a team of two…5 ¼ hours shuttle to shuttle. Fun shit!!

We gonna do this?

Needs some water flow…

Newt sighting…always looking out for these little critters…

Another dry rap…

Then after 4-raps…a long walk over a dry drainage…

Look!…water!!

Do you see what I see….?

Classic view that gets a canyoneer excited….

Rap 5 and 6…125′ of low angle with a short vertical drop we call The Nose…

The Nose…

Rap 5 & 6…125′

Mayflower Falls, the money drop…

Mayflower Falls…80′

Then the drainage takes a hard left, then a right…for what we call the squiggles…

Upper Squiggles…70′

Lower Squiggles…25′

Guess this is it…

The rainy day’s route…
