Moon Point 8-31-25

Moon Point…

It was a nice day for a hike. Dry with mild temps and filtered sun. Deb and I opted for the long route, starting at the trailhead on FR21, using the Youngs Rock trail (3685) to the Moon Point Trail (3688) for a short trip out to Moon Point.

The trail goes right by Youngs Rock, a huge mass of rock that begs to be climbed. Not sure if we are the ones to do it though… Maybe next year’s project.

Standing on Moon point you get great views south at Dome Rock, the Calapooya Mountains, the top of Mount Bailey, plus many other peaks, including Youngs Peak, just across Youngs Creek drainage.
This route takes you through some pretty nice forest with giant Ponderosa’s, Cedars, and Douglas fir’s.

Good day outside before the rains come.

The trail goes through thinned stands of…

…Oak, Pine, Fir…etc

Lot of Madrone too.

Moisture ring equals incoming rain…

First look at Youngs Rock…

Looking down into the Staley Creek canyon… The smoky haze in the canyon is from the recent Emigrant fire.

Dome Rock…

First look at Moon Point, from the trail.
