Mount David Douglas Cliffs…
Deb and I went to explore the top of the cliffs of Mount David Douglas. If you’ve travelled Hwy 58 westbound, then you’ve probably seen the massive rock wall above the hwy between Salt Creek Falls and Oakridge. These walls are along the side of Mount David Douglas.
Driving the road in is half the adventure. This route is all cross country. Along the top of the wall there are rock outcroppings that you can get a better view over the edge. Parts of the forest are pretty thrashy and other parts are clear and quite nice.
Lovely day out with my wife, Deb.
From our parking spot, a view of Mount David Douglas summit.

After a short walk through the forest we are at the east end of the cliff…

Across the Salt Creek Canyon, you can see the railroad’s snow shed. What you can’t see is the railroad tunnel at the right end of the snow shed. We were lucky enough to watch (through binoculars) a long freight train go through the snow shed and tunnel…Cool!

Where the forest is close to the cliff, we hiked through the forest till we could safely go back out onto the top of the cliff.

Hazy view of Diamond Peak (center) and Mount Yoran (left)

You wouldn’t have to climb that pinnacle, you could rappel and step over onto it…

I would have harvested the chicken of the woods in a heartbeat. Probably old hat to you as much cross county as you do. Great pics.
Ha, I’m not a big fan of mushrooms, but do enjoy the color. A year earlier I walked past the same stump and took a few pics. Last years flower is dried up and white this year…
