Saturday’s forecast was perfect for a solo run up to the summit of Mount Hood. Left the truck at 4:10 am, hit the hogsback at 7:30 am, then pushed for the summit…arriving at 8:15 am. Hung out at the summit for a while, seeing several others I knew, then headed off, getting back to the truck at 11:00 am. Later in the evening, hearing that there was a rescue of three injured climbers, I was glad I got up there, and off the mountain early, before the mountain started falling apart.
Slogging up the mountain, watching dawn arrive…
On the hogsback, watching other climbers ascend the old chute route…(far left)
Looking south at Mount Jefferson and the Three Sisters, as the sun rises…
Looking down the mountain, at Timberline at sunrise…
At the summit ridge, looking NE…
One other on the summit ridge…
From the summit of Mount Hood, looking west, at other climbers heading to the summit…
Leaving the summit with a crowd of other climbers…
Looking down at my descent route…
Back on the hogsback, looking at many climbers still heading up, and a few heading down the old chute route…
