Point 6762…Mount Washington Wilderness
I’ve been eyeing this peak for a few years now, and finally found an opportunity to go and explore. I was hoping that there’d be a scramble route to the top, but no, looks like we’ll need gear to reach the top. Surprisingly there is no trail leading to this peak. The route we took wandered past some very curious pits and grooves in the terrain. Once we got to the base of the peak, we scrambled up as far as we felt comfortable, found a spot and took a long break. From there it looked like we had another 150’ to the summit. It was pretty low angle (maybe 45 deg), but a fall would be fatal, so we backed off. We didn’t have any gear or helmets.
From there, the views were awesome! An area that I haven’t explored much, other than many trips to the summit of Mt Washington.
Fun explore. We’ll be back with some gear to reach the summit of Point 6762.
Shortly after the start, looking back at the first set of curious pits…
The pits are pretty deep. We entered a few but didn’t find any cave openings…
Found a Great Horned Owl though… Look at them talons!
Starting to climb Mt Washington’s NE ridge, looking back at our route… Cache Mountain (green hill) and Green Ridge (horizon)
First good look at Point 6762 and the East side of Mount Washington.
Panorama shot of the NE side of Mt Washington, Belknap Crater, The Husband, North and Middle Sister, Broken Top, and Black Crater (right to left)
We made it to the top of the yellow flake. The proposed route (red line) to the summit…
Looking up aprox 150′ to the summit. The grey rock is solid…
Looking north at Three Finger Jack, and Mount Jefferson…
Looking south at Broken Top, North and Middle Sister… South Sister is hiding behind Middle…
Here’s a good representation of the angle of the final slope to the summit of Point 6762…
Wonderful pictures all and the great horned owl was a bonus.
