Point 7138 (S.Yoran) 6-25-25

Pont 7138 (South Yoran)

I remember tagging the summit of Mount Yoran for the first time back in September of 2007. I remember looking over at the south summit, thinking that looks like a fun explore. I finally had a chance to go do just that.

Seeing Mount Yoran from a distance, I could see that it was snow free. What I didn’t see was all the snow that is still left deep in the forest. Leaving from the Vivian Lake trailhead, the snow started at about 5500’, and was solid in the forest, still 3’-4’ deep…deeper in some places. Along the open ridge lines there were snow-free sections, but for the most part, most of the trail was still snow covered. Oh well, it kept the bugs at bay.

I couldn’t really find the trail from Divide Lake to the south ridge of S. Yoran, so I just headed straight up the SW face till I hit the ridge, then continued to the summit. The ridge to the summit is an easy loose talus path.
Nice views from the summit.

Good day outside…

Looks like a good blueberry season… This trail needs some maintenance.

First snow patch, about a mile in…

Here, the blueberries are a bit behind….

Notch Lake…

Lots of water on the trail…

Still a lot of snow in the forest, starting at about 5500’…

Some snow free trail sections up on the ridge line…

First look at Diamond Peak…

…then more snow…

I could see the trail about 4′ down.

First look at today’s objective, Point 7138…South Yoran.

A frozen Divide Lake with Mount Yoran.

Final push up the south ridge…

A view from the summit, looking NE at Willamete Pass ski hill, Odell Lake, Three Sisters, Broken Top, Lakeview Mountain…and much more.

Looking south at Diamond Peak.

Looking north at Mount Yoran and the summit ridge of Point 7138 (S.Yoran)

See all the snow down there…

Last look at Point 7138…

Another shot of Notch Lake on my way back…

Todays track…
