Pueblo Mountain…
Pueblo Mountain has always seemed like a big undertaking since I noticed it on my first trip to the Alvord Desert. Since then, we notice it every time we tag Alvord Peak. From there the view of Pueblo Mountain is grand.
Not much beta on how to climb Pueblo, let alone where to park. Most talk about how bad the road is into where you would park. I guess how far you drive in, depends on the vehicle. This trip we brought The Raven, our newly converted campervan…one of its first trip out, before we added the 4×4 conversion…which means, we didn’t drive in very far.
There really is no trail to the summit. Just follow the road till you see a good line to the top. Our line turned out to be the NW ridge. From leaving the road, to the summit, it’s a 1.5 mile x 2000’ gain cross-country huff, but totally worth it. The 360 deg views are incredible. Our descent was a cross-country route in a NNW direction making this trip a fun and scenic loop.
Another fun day out with my lovely wife Deb.
From camp we’ll head up to the left…
…till we land on this road, that we’ll walk for a while…
Walking up the Arizona Creek drainage…
Part way up the mountain, looking back at the Stergen Meadows and a spring fed drainage…
Vertebra from a Pronghorn Antelope. Looks better than my last MRI 🙂
Zoomed in shot of some Pronghorn Antelope…
The high point of Pueblo Mountain…
A view north. You can just make out the dry Alvord Lake and the Alvord Desert (playa)
Looking down our cross-country route…
Looks like you had great weather. Wonderful to see the antelope. Some nasty looking cactus there. I think that’s the one that reaches out and grabs onto you and hurts like hell.
