Sardine Mountain via the Mayflower…
A good loop for this time of year. Steep, steep, steep…right out of the car. The first 1.5 mile gains 2850’ of elevation. Beautiful fall day. Cool, crisp and sunny. Clear views of most of the volcanos along with so many other peaks.
Took the Mayflower trail up to Water Tower Mtn, then the connector ridge to road 2223, then the huff up to Sardine Mountain, along its summit ridge, then the long descent back down to Sardine Creek and Hwy 22.
Good day out with my lovely wife, Deb.
2850′ gain in the first 1.5 mile…
Fun rock scrambling along the way, if you so choose…
High enough now for a good look at Whitman Rock in the distance…
First good look at Sardine Mountain…
Lots of work along Road 2223 and Knutson Saddle…
Final push up to the summit of Sardine Mountain.
Looking over at Elephant Rock, Split Spire, and Tumble Rock…
Dome Rock and Mount Jefferson. Can also see Needle Rock between the two…
From near the summit of Sardine Mtn.
Looking at the summit ridge, the ridge we’ll take before dropping 3000′ back to the car…
Only 6.5 miles but kickass. You really get the views now after the burn.
