Sheep Rock,
Second time up Sheep Rock. Fun scramble of an iconic rock. Lots of wildlife out today. The weather was dry, but mostly cloudy. A bit breezy at the summit. Logged about 8.2 miles x 2000’ gain for this adventure. Route was mostly old road, with cross-country starting close to the base of sheep rock.
Escaped the rain in the valley, and headed east with my lovely wife, Deb.
Parked near the Goose Rock Bridge…
After about a mile, Sheep Rock shows itself…
Then Curious Rock comes into view. I first saw this formation about 10 years ago. Shortly after, Deb and I went to explore it. Cool rock!
The old road ends here, so it’s now a cross-country spiral route to the top…
Looking up at the summit block…
just below the summit block, looking south and down at the John Day River and Hwy 19…
At the summit, looking northeast at Windy Point…
Looking north and down at the John Day River…
Looking south and down at the John Day River, and the entrance to Picture Gorge…
Looking down at the down climb to get off the summit block…Fun Shit!

Never been there but close I think. Very nice looking area.
