Deb and I stayed dry yesterday with our choice to head to Central Oregon. There seemed to be a constant threat of rain, but it never did. Cold, windy….but no rain. We did a nice loop inside the Crooked River National Grassland boundary…which included a fun climb up Squaw Rock, a 2-pitch pinnacle perched on Indian Ridge. This loop is a 6-mile loop that takes you into the grasslands near the turf farm, up to Mendenhall Ridge, over to Indian Ridge, along Indian Ridge, dropping down to the dry irrigation canal, then back to the truck. All easy cross country…with tremendous views, even as cloudy as it was.
The terrain we were on most of the day…
Nearing Squaw Rock, on Indian Ridge…
Looking across the canyon at the rock of Mendenhall Ridge… The Poplar, The Sapling…etc
Deb preparing for the rappel off Squaw Rock…
Heading down Indian Ridge looking back at Squaw Rock…
…and the pinnacle called Leaning Brave…
Dropping down to the irrigation canal… an interesting experience to walk in the dry canal…
