Sugarloaf Mountain
We haven’t been up on Sugarloaf for 4-years, so we thought it would be a good day to visit. Most of the walk in is on private timberland roads, with a final 800’ forest scramble to just below the summit block. The summit block is a two-pitch technical climb, and we did not bring any gear today.
The conditions were clear and sunny with a very cool breeze.
Nice day out with my lovely wife, Deb.
First shot of Sugarloaf Mountain from the road below…
A zoomed in shot of the north face of Onion Peak…
Found a nice spot out of the wind, on the south shoulder of the summit.
South side of Sugarloaf summit block…
Lots in this pic…Nehalem Bay, Black Butte, Onion Peak, and West Onion Peak…
Looking east at Kidders Butte and Twin Buttes…
I spy Onion Peak through the eye hole. Onion plants…
Looking up the technical route to the true summit…
Saddle Mountain complex, and the Humbug Mountain complex…
The NW aspect of Sugarloaf summit…
Looking North, down at Seaside, and if you zoom in, you can see the mouth of the Columbia River…
Twin Buttes being photo bombed by a Turkey Vulture…
They were so still and curious.
Nice pictures as always Karl. I’ve never been there.
