Table Rock to Pechuck Lookout…
Always a good route this time of year. Sunday was a dry, mostly sunny day. Most of this route is in the forest, so not many chances to warm the face in the sun. That’s kind of a good thing because there’s not much time to sit, due to the short days, these days.
Last years burn barely touched the Table Rock Wilderness, but got very close. Most of this route is in unburned forest. The first sign of the burn is maybe a mile from the Pechuck Lookout, as well as at the lookout. We saw the lookout wrap stored inside the lookout, but are unsure if it was used. In any case, it was good to see the lookout untouched by the fire. Took a nice break reading the lookout log book. Not many documented visitors since the burn…just a handful of entries by BLM officials checking on the lookout. Since the road is still gated at “The Old Bridge”, the only way to the lookout is if you have a key to the gate, or come in from the Table Rock trailhead.
A mad dash back to the trailhead before darkness set in…good day out with my love, Deb.
A cold boulder field crossing…
Several points in this pic…Battle Ax, Mount Beachie, Whetstone Mountain, Burnt Mountain, and Pechuck Lookout…

On the ridge between Rooster Rock and Pechuck Lookout…lots of blowdown.
About a mile before Pechuck, the burn starts…
