Day two, The Flatiron hike…and beyond. This hike is a steep one. It gains about 3000’ in about 3-miles…most of it in the last mile. The Flatiron is a large sloped flat area w/ 1000’ vertical walls and incredible views west over the Phoenix metro area. We continued another 400’ gain to the high point (5024) just NW of The Flatiron. This area is really a fun place to scramble and explore. Lots of rocks…
A view of Goldfield Mountain Range…
Pretty cool section of the trail…
Looking back down at the smooth section of trail…
The next mile is a steep class 3/4 bouldery scramble…
…then a short traverse over to The Flatiron.
From The Flatiron looking down in the “Siphon Draw” canyon we came up…
Looking over at Superstition Mountain…
Looking over at the high point we will scramble. Pretty fun finding a route through all the rocks…
More rocks and The Flatiron in the far distance…
Every highpoint in this area has these rock gardens…
Tomorrow’s objective…Weaver’s Needle.
Back down looking back up the Siphon Draw canyon.
Never did find out what that mountain is called…looks like granite but probably not. We were told that the growth on top of this saguaro cactus was rare, although we saw a few…
Last look at The Flatiron Hike, up the siphon draw…
