Twin Peaks + Point 7374…
Well, this time of year we usually head to the Wind River Range in Wyoming. Unfortunately, we had to change direction due to an early winter storm over the Wind’s. The weather didn’t look too bad in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana, so that’s the direction we headed for. On the drive we were watching the conditions deteriorate due to the smoke from the wildfires, so again, we changed our direction…
This brought us, and our van, to the Selkirk Mountains of Northern Idaho. Both Deb and I have never explored this area. Wow, so much to explore up here. The weather was perfect. It was a bit hazy, but the views were stunning.
Our first stop was a two-night backpack up to Beehive Lake to scramble Twin Peaks (north & south), along with Point 7374. I believe this is three of the “Seven Sisters”. The rock up here is beautiful white granite. So grippy! We set up camp near the shore of Beehive Lake. The next morning, we scrambled the north peak of Twin Peaks. Easy scramble with a couple of spicy moves. After a break at the summit, we headed for the south peak summit. A fun scramble along a blocky ridge. Both summits offered beautiful views of the Selkirk Mountains. After getting back to camp we enjoyed a nice dip in Beehive Lake.
The next morning, we decided to scramble up to the summit of Point 7374, another fun scramble, with awesome views. After getting back to camp we packed up and headed back down the trail to the van, for a nice night at the trailhead.
Fun intro to the Selkirk Mountains. Tomorrow, we scramble up Harrison Peak…

The highpoint on the ridge in this pic is called The Roman Nose…I can see why.

On the ridge between the north and south peak…

The pinnacle is called Chimney Rock…. Coming back for that!

The next morning, on our way up Point 7374.

Very nice. I’ve seen that area featured on “Outdoor Idaho” a few times but nice to see it from your firsthand experience.
