Weekend weather…not so good. Looking for a place to hike at upper elevation so any moisture that falls, falls as snow. Whetstone Jawbone Loop was the perfect place…although it was raining at the trailhead when we started, and when we ended.
The forest was beautiful as always, wet and mossy at low elevation, a winter wonderland at upper elevation. We saw more deer than people, in fact the only other human we saw was a Jawbone Flats residence looking out the window from a dry warm cabin.
Great day for a long hike…with my sweet love, Deb.
Only vehicle here at 8:30am…raining. 1920′ elevation
Snow starts to stick at about 2200′
Snowshoes went on at about 4700′, just below the summit of Whetstone Mountain…
No views at the summit…cept for this one 🙂
Continuing east along the ridge at about 4000′, before dropping down to Battle Ax Creek…
…with about 4″ of slushy snow.
The dismount after scooting across…
Deb shows how it’s done 🙂
