Diablo Peak 5-24-25

Diablo Peak…

We headed SE for the holiday weekend, and landed at Summer Lake. Friday we drove to the Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge ad set up camp. Saturday, we hiked Diablo Peak. The route is all cross-country, crossing a few miles of sage covered sand dunes, and up and over a few hills before the final push to the summit (6147’). The views were awesome.

Fun day out with my lovely wife, Deb.

A view from where we parked. Can’t see Diablo yet, it sits just beyond the horizon.

After crossing a few miles of sand dunes, looking back at the Winter Rim in the far distance.

In a sea of green, the Paintbrush provides a bit of contrasting color…

Looking down over the edge, at our route back down to the desert floor…

Looking back up at the route we took down…

Dust Devil…

Looking straight up at the dust devil…

The next morning we drove up to the Winter Rim to camp for the night and enjoy the view down into the Summer Lake Valley.

Just a different sort of country out that way. The Indian paintbrush sure brought some color to the area. All good pics Karl.
