Granite Peak 11-13-23

Granite Peak…

Granite Peak is the high point of the Granite Mountains, within the Mojave National Preserve. This hike is all about the steep relentless boulder scramble. Like most peaks in the park, there is no trail to the top…it’s pretty much the path of least resistance. Very scenic. Lots of stickery stuff to look out for, but not too bad.

Another fun day outside. Deb would have liked this one too…

Leaving camp…

Let the scramble begin…

Looking back and thinking…this is going to take a while…

Love the color of the old wood…

Nearing the summit of Granite Peak…

Summit register…

Looking down at the desert floor, 3000′ below…

I see a animated character resting its chin on a pile of rocks…

Nice specimens of the local vegetation, the California Barrel Cactus, the Cholla Cactus, and the Yucca plant. All very pointy!

Ugh…

Finally, back on the floor…

The day’s track…
