Old Dad Mountain 12-23-20

Old Dad Mountain…

Old Dad Mountain is inside the Mojave National Preserve on the west side or the Preserve. After checking out other summits we settled on Old Dad Mtn because the wind wasn’t as bad as other areas of the Preserve. We found a nice secluded camp spot that we could start the hike from.

We started early the next morning with not much beta on how exactly to get up this peak. Turned out to be pretty straight forward. Hard to get lost in a place like this, as wide open as it is. The beta we did have talked about a gully scramble to the top…we found the gully and followed it to the top. Beautiful desert views…much different from what we see from the tops of the peaks in the PNW (also very beautiful and scenic)

Days were short so we quickly headed back to camp so we could enjoy an hour of sun before it dropped behind the hills…because when the sun drops here, the temps drop with it.

Camp in the morning…ready to hike.

Hehehe….

At this point we really didn’t know what the route up to the summit was…

We read about a deep gully scramble…this was the only gully we saw so we just scrambled it…

One of those gullies that just kept on giving…

Looking back at where we came from…

At the summit, Deb reading the summit register…

Our route back to camp…

Looking back up, now we can see the route…

BOO!!

Today’s track…
