Sardine Mountain Loop 8-2-23

Sardine Mountain Loop – Solo

I haven’t been up to Sardine Mountain since before the 2020 Beachie fire. I started at Hwy 22, across from Big Cliff Reservoir, and walked the now gated road up to Knutsen Saddle, then huffed it up to the summit of Sardine Mountain. I continued along the ridge (the ridge that keeps on giving), until the route drops to the east about 3000’ in just 2 miles. Glad I brought my trekking poles…

It will be quite some time before this are recovers from the fire, but the evidence clearly shows…it is recovering. From the summit of Sardine Mountain, the 360-degree views are awesome.

Great workout. Only thing I missed was my adventure partner, Deb

I used to drive this road to Knutson Saddle (base of Sardine Mountain). Not any more…

Road is still in good shape…

This is the trail I will be coming down…

Up at Knutson Saddle. That’s Dome Rock through the burned trees…

Starting up the final push to the summit of Sardine Mountain…

From right to left…Cooling Tower Rock, Tumble Rock, Split Sire, and Elephant Rock. Tumble Lake below…

Dome Rock to the left and Mount Jefferson way in the distance…

The time of year when these insects occupy all the highpoints…

Looking NE at the results of the 2020 Beachie Fire…

Looking NW at the Sardine Mountain ridge line…

Looking back at Dome Rock and Mount Jefferson in the distance…

Rocky Top…

Lots of salvage logging after the 2020 Beachie Creek Fire…

Now I have to drop about 3000′ in about 2 miles…UGH!
