Squaw Rock, Indian Ridge, Smith Rock – Spiral Route 4-21-13

Squaw RockAn old-school Smith Rock classic. This spire stands out on Indian Ridge in Smith Rock’s back country. The old-school’rs used to climb this rock all the time, in fact these pinnacles out here on Indian Ridge and Mendenhall Ridge were considered Smith Rocks before anyone knew how to climb the walls and cracks they do today.

Squaw Rock is and adventure climb because first you have to find it. There is no trail leading to it, it’s mostly cross country scrambling through the junipers and the free-range cattle. Best time to do this climb is Fall, Winter, and Spring…before the rattlers and tick wake up. Once you do Squaw, and see all the other pinnacles out there, you’ll want to go back…if you like adventure.
