Thunder Mountain 12-13-23

Thunder Mountain…

It’s been a long time since I’ve visited this area. I was glad I was able to drive up to the trailhead at about 4500’, just above Lost Creek Meadow. It was pretty much snow the whole way except for the slopes that see a lot of sun. Some of the decommissioned road section is very choked with slide alder that is half held down from snow…so much fun, NOT! Skookum Lake is frozen over. Lots of deer, coyote, and snowshoe hare tracks along the way. From Thunder Mountain, the views are spectacular, but that will change as the trees are growing taller.

Even though most of the route was under snow, it was cool enough to keep the snow firm, so no snowshoes were needed. Nice day out…

Figured there’d be snow but nice to know how much now. Those alders close to Skookum Lake are horrible. Thanks for the cool pictures.
