Battleship Mountain 4-16-23

While on a solo trip to Southern Arizona, I thought I’d spend a day outside. I found a great scramble, Battleship Mountain. It turned out to be a 14 plus mike hike with a great scramble to the top of Battleship Mountain. Spring is a beautiful time to be in the Sonoran Desert.

Beginning of the trail…

Always lucky to spot a male Cardinal…

…and the Raven.

This Desert Cottontail ran out into the trail, looked at me…

…then ran towards me and stopped…

…then after figuring out what I was….RUN!!

Pretty green and lush this time of year…

First look at Battleship Mountain…center of pic, which is really just a very narrow ridge.

Looking up Boulder Canyon. That pinnacle in the distance is Weaver’s Needle.

I guess this means I’m a pollinator today…

Looking down into La Barge Canyon…

Up on Battleship Mountain beginning the ridge scramble…

This is the fun part…

Engelman’s Hedgehog Cactus Blooms…

From the summit looking back at the scramble ridge…

Looking north at a small part of Canyon Lake…I’m sure I’m having more fun (-:

The common Chuckwalla… Glad I saw it before I reached for the hand-hold…

California Cholla Cactus…

Back down in Boulder Canyon…

Weaver’s Needle…Been there, done that!

Thistle…

Weaver’s Needle…

Trail lined with Desert Globemollow…

Rest day…

The route I hiked…
