Black Elk Peak 10-5-22

Black Elk Peak…

Black Elk Peak, South Dakota’s Highpoint at 7242’ and the highest point in the Black Elk Wilderness. This is a beautiful area to wander amongst the garden of rocks. While we were taking a break at the summit tower we spied Mountain Goats on some rocks far away. On the hike back we were able to get a closer look at them but we were still a fair distance away. The lookout tower was built by the CCC and it showed…rock solid! We took a short side trail down to have a look at the Cathedral Spires, a group of sharp pinnacles. The fall colors were incredible, especially the Aspens.

Great weather, great company, and a great hike…

All coffee’d up and ready to go……

Our First view of the summit lookout tower…

While taking a break at the summit we noticed two Mountain Goats in the far distance, on top of some rocks…See them?

I think we read that this tower had its own water source…

A freak’n rock garden…

The Cathedral Spires…

A closer look at the Cathedral Spires.

Can you see the Mountain Goats now?
