Haleakala Crater Hike 1-30-22

Haleakala Crater Hike…

Next time I’d like to spend more time exploring this crater and all it’s nooks and crannies…and caves. We started at the Halemau’u Trailhead. The trail immediately goes down a series of switchbacks, and drops 1400’ in elevation…not the best way to end a 14-mile hike, but the scenic aspect made up for it.

The route we took was a series of trails to the center of the crater which took us by several large cinder craters. The terrain looked like the moon, or Mars surface…pretty cool! We spent a lot of time taking pictures and observing the scenery through the binoculars. Had a nice break at our turnaround, before heading back.

Great day out with Deb…

One map I found this spot on labeled it “Bottomless Pit”, and I just had to find. Turns out it’s only 65′ deep… 🙁

After our hike, we drove to the summit for a quick view…
