Humbug Mountain 4-26-20

Humbug Mountain…
Well, to keep with our recent trips into the northern Oregon coastal range, some call it the Clatsop Alps, we decided to explore a couple of ridges on Humbug Mountain, as well as the whole summit area. It’s been may years since my first hike up to Humbug…and probably won’t be my last.
We found a couple of really cool narrow ridges along the way. The first being a moderately used ridge that most would call knife edge…but it’s like a dull knife ridge. We walked out and took a nice break in the sun. After our break we hiked up to the Radio Facility, then NW until we had covered the whole summit area. On our way back we cut down a road in search of another ridge we had seen on the lidar. Wow, this ridge was a sharp knife edge, not one that I’d walk on. After a few pics, we scrambled back to the main road and back to car.
Got some miles, but not much in elevation. Still a fun explore of a unique mountain in the north Oregon coastal range…

A view of the Clatsop Alps…Angora, Onion, Kidders Butte, Twin Peaks, and Sugarloaf…

The moderately used knife edge ridge heading southeast…

Nice place for a break in the sun…

So much new growth in the forest…

So much green…

First view of Saddle Mountain…

This is as far as I’d walk out on this knife edge ridge…

Pretty cool ridge line…

From the ridge, a nice view of Saddle Mountain.

A very defensive Newt…
