Santiam Pinnacle and The Smokestack 9-19-15

Went outside with Olson Saturday and climbed the Santiam Pinnacle and The Smokestack. Both fun climbs in the Old Cascades.
Santiam Pinnacle is a pleasant 2.5 pitch, well bolted route up the south face. I believe it goes at 5.4 and is close to 200’. A very enjoyable climb.
The Smokestack is a big fat 80’ pinnacle that doesn’t get much attention. The standard route goes up the west side. I believe it goes at about a 5.7 + I cleaned a lot of thick moss off the route, and installed a nice bolt about half way up, since I didn’t bring big enough gear. The protection would have been ok if I brought about three #3 cams and a couple of large tri-cams. Good thing I brought my bolt kit. I also installed a second bolt at the top making the rap anchor bomber.
Fun day in the warm sun…
