Whetstone / Jawbone Loop 5-26-13

P1000161Took a couple of friends on this great conditioner hike…rain or shine. This day it rained! We tagged Whetstone Mountain, then followed the rarely used trail leading east along the boundary line, then dropped down to Battle Ax Creek…which posed a crossing problem. We found a wet log to scoot across, then scrambled up to the main trail that leads to Jawbone Flats…an old mining community. Along the way we stopped to have a look at the abandoned Ruth Mine plus a secret spot. It’s always fun to walk through Jawbone Flats and check out what’s new in the community. They seem to be building something new every time I walk through. Then the 3.5-mile road hike back to the truck….
